Why practise minimal pairs?
A minimal pair contains words that differ by one important sound. The goal is practical: help a listener hear the word you intended. This page checks one authored target at a time; it does not grade your accent or claim to diagnose every sound in free speech.
Record before hearing the model. That makes the first attempt active rather than an imitation.

Does this give me an overall pronunciation score?
No. It checks only the selected, registered target and withholds a correctness claim when the recording is unclear or unsupported.

Are these the only important English sound contrasts?
