سوالهای شخصی به انگلیسی؛ کدومها رو نباید پرسید؟
کدوم سوالهای شخصی به انگلیسی برای small talk امنترن، کدومها زیادی مستقیمان، چطور soften یا permission بگیریم، و اگه نخواستیم جواب بدیم چی بگیم؟
توی آشنایی تازه یا محیط کار، سؤالهای عمومی دربارهی weekend، hobby، travel و work/study معمولاً امنترن؛ salary، health details، relationship/family pressure، politics/religion و بعضی age/appearance questions معمولاً context بیشتری میخوان.
سؤال از نظر grammar عالیه:
How much do you make?
verb سر جاشه، word order هم درسته.
فقط ممکنه طرف مقابل همون لحظه تصمیم بگیره دیگه باهات small talk نکنه 😄
مشکل grammar نیست؛ timing و رابطهست.
CHECK THE TOPIC → CHECK THE RELATIONSHIP → SOFTEN OR ASK PERMISSION → WATCH THE REACTION → BACK OFF OR REDIRECT
|---|---|---|
| GREEN | How was your weekend? | برای خیلی از موقعیتهای casual/work معمولاً کمریسکتره. |
| GREEN | What do you like doing in your free time? | طرف میتونه کوتاه یا مفصل جواب بده. |
| GREEN | What kind of work do you do? | generalـه؛ وارد salary و details خصوصی نمیشه. |
| YELLOW | How old are you? | ممکنه در بعضی رابطهها کاملاً عادی باشه؛ برای آشنایی تازه یا workplace بهتره context داشته باشی. |
| YELLOW | Are you married? | relationship status برای بعضی آدمها خصوصیتره؛ بهتره از چیزی که خودش گفته follow-up بسازی. |
| YELLOW | Are you feeling better now? | اگه خودش دربارهی بیماری/health چیزی گفته، narrow follow-up ممکنه مناسب باشه؛ diagnosis interrogation نه. |
| RED AS DEFAULT | How much do you make? | exact salary برای new acquaintance/work small talk معمولاً زیادی مستقیمه. |
| RED AS DEFAULT | Why are you still single? | فشار روی relationship status + قضاوت ضمنی. |
| RED AS DEFAULT | Why don’t you have children? | ممکنه وارد موضوع خیلی شخصی بشه؛ default opener خوبی نیست. |
| RED AS DEFAULT | What religion are you?
|---|---|---|
| How much do you make? | What kind of work do you do? | job رو میپرسی، نه exact income رو. |
| Are you married? | اگه خودش partner رو مطرح کرد: How long have you two been together? | از information خودش follow-up میسازی. |
| Why don’t you have children? | default: نپرس. | لازم نیست هر topic شخصی rewrite داشته باشه. |
| What religion are you? | Would you mind if I asked about your background? | فقط وقتی context واقعاً relevantـه و طرف openness نشون داده. |
permission phrase خوبه؛ ولی چراغ سبز نامحدود نیست
Useful English phraseهایی مثل اینها رو برای ورود نرمتر به سؤال شخصی میاره:
Can I ask you something a little personal?
Would you mind if I asked you something personal?
Do you mind if I ask...?
Only if you’re comfortable sharing...
ولی permission phrase مشکل اصلی رو جادو نمیکنه. اگه topic از پایه unnecessary یا خیلی intrusiveـه، Would you mind... فقط wrapping شیکتره.
چهار جمله که واقعاً توی مکالمه به کارت میخورن
Original practice example
What do you like doing in your free time?
یه opener کمفشار که طرف میتونه کوتاه یا مفصل جواب بده.
آشنایی تازه، networking یا workplace small talk.
«تو وقت آزاد دوست داری چه کار کنی؟»
جواب خودت رو بده، بعد فقط یه follow-up دربارهی همون hobby بپرس.
Original practice example
Would you mind if I asked you something personal?
ورود نرمتره، ولی هنوز باید reaction طرف رو ببینی و آمادهی «نه» باشی.
وقتی relationship/context قبلاً یه موضوع شخصیتر رو باز کرده.
«اشکالی داره یه سؤال شخصی بپرسم؟»
این جمله رو بگو، بعد جواب I’d rather not. رو بدون فشار قبول کن.
Original practice example
I’d rather not say.
یه boundary کوتاه و neutral؛ لازم نیست apology یا explanation اضافه کنی.
salary، age، family یا هر چیزی که نمیخوای جواب بدی.
«ترجیح میدم نگم.»
بعدش یه redirect اضافه کن: How about you—how’s your week going?
Original practice example
I prefer to keep that private, but I’m happy to talk about work.
Usually, I...
Lately, I’ve been...
One thing I really enjoy is...
It depends, but...
Question: What do you like doing in your free time?
Answer: Lately, I’ve been cooking more. It helps me switch off after work.
Follow-up: What do you like cooking?
Question: How was your weekend?
Answer: Pretty quiet, actually. I stayed home and caught up on a few things.
Follow-up: Did you get a chance to relax?
Question: What kind of work do you do?
Answer: I work in project management. Most of my work is with remote teams.
Follow-up: Do you work from home much?
ایده اینه که follow-up روی چیزی سوار بشه که طرف خودش گفته؛ نه اینکه به یه topic خصوصیِ جدید بپری.
follow-up خوب، از چیزی میاد که طرف خودش باز کرده
British Council برای small talk روی listening و follow-upهای طبیعی تأکید میکنه. اگه طرف یه موضوع رو خودش مطرح کرد، میتونی narrow follow-up بدی؛ لازم نیست یه topic شخصیِ جدید باز کنی.
They say: I went hiking at the weekend.
You: Where did you go?
They say: I’ve been really busy with work.
You: What have you been working on?
نه اینکه مستقیم بپری به:
How much are they paying you?
اگه answer کوتاه شد، tone عوض شد یا طرف topic رو بست، follow-up بعدی لازم نیست.
اگه یکی از خودت سؤال شخصی پرسید، مجبور نیستی جواب بدی
چند level از boundary:
Neutral: I’d rather not say.
Polite: I prefer to keep that private.
Redirect: I’d rather not get into that, but work’s been good lately.
Stronger: I’d rather not discuss that.
لازم نیست جواب ندادن رو با داستان طولانی justify کنی.
یه correction مهم: بعضی سؤالها غلط نیستن؛ فقط context-dependentـن
Original: How much money do you make?
Classification: grammatically valid، ولی context-dependent.
شنونده چی میفهمه؟ سؤال مستقیم دربارهی income/salary.
منظور learner: خیلی وقتها فقط میخواد دربارهی job یا financial situation کنجکاوی کنه.
Natural alternative برای general small talk:
What do you do?
What kind of work do you do?
Context note: How much do you make? ذاتاً غلط نیست. توی بعضی hiring، HR، negotiation، financial planning یا conversationهایی که salary از قبل موضوعشه میتونه مناسب باشه. مشکلش بهعنوان casual openerـه، نه grammar.
Personal Question Traffic-Light Check
Scenario A — همکار جدید: How much do you make?
Result: RED AS DEFAULT برای small talk.
Repair: What kind of work do you do?
Scenario B — آشنای جدید: What do you like doing on weekends?
Result: GREEN.
Follow-up: اگه گفت hiking، بپرس Where do you usually go?
Scenario C — دوست میگه: My partner and I moved last month.
Result: GREEN follow-up روی چیزی که خودش گفته.
Try: How are you liking the new place?
Scenario D — همکار میگه: I was at the doctor yesterday.
Question: What exactly is wrong with you?
Result: YELLOW/RED depending relationship؛ معمولاً زیادی مستقیم برای coworker.
Safer: I hope everything’s okay. و بذار خودش تصمیم بگیره بیشتر بگه یا نه.
Scenario E — یکی میپرسه: Why are you still single?
Your boundary: I prefer to keep that private.
Redirect: So, how’s your new job going?
قبل از سؤال شخصی، چک کن
تمرین ۹۰ثانیهای
فرض کن با یه coworker جدید آشنا شدی.
سه کار کن:
یه سؤال GREEN بپرس.
یه سؤال YELLOW رو یا soften کن یا تصمیم بگیر اصلاً نپرسی.
بعد فرض کن ازت میپرسه How much do you make?؛ با یه boundary + redirect جواب بده.
مثلاً:
I’d rather not say, but I’m happy to talk about the kind of work I do.
سؤال درست فقط grammar نیست
تو میتونی یه question از نظر grammar بینقص بسازی و هنوز timing بدی داشته باشی.
CHECK THE TOPIC → CHECK THE RELATIONSHIP → SOFTEN OR ASK PERMISSION → WATCH THE REACTION → BACK OFF OR REDIRECT
بهتره طرف مقابل حس کنه میتونه جواب کوتاه بده، جواب نده، یا موضوع رو عوض کنه. همین freedom خیلی وقتها فرق بین curiosity و pryingـه.
