अंग्रेज़ी सुनते समय आगे क्या आएगा, इसका अनुमान कैसे लगाएँ

English listening में आगे क्या आएगा? Context और sentence signals से अगली direction predict करें और audio के अनुसार तुरंत update करना सीखें।

The short answer

आगे क्या आएगा predict करने के लिए exact अगला word मत guess कीजिए: context, sentence signal और familiar language pattern से पहले अगली information की category चुनिए, फिर सुनते ही prediction को confirm, बदल या छोड़ दीजिए।

Speaker कहता है: “I thought the film would be boring, but…” और आपका दिमाग अभी boring = उबाऊ पर अटका है। इस बीच but अगला road sign लगा चुका है: अब contrast की तरफ मोड़ आने की संभावना है। Prediction का मतलब अगला exact word जानना नहीं है। Context और signals से अगली direction चुनिए, फिर audio को आपकी guess confirm, बदल या reject करने दीजिए।

Exact word नहीं—पहले अगला मोड़ पहचानिए
आपने क्या सुनाSignalPlausible अगली categoryक्या assume नहीं करना
“I liked the idea, but…”butcontrast, limitation या अलग evaluationexact adjective या complaint
“The reason I called is…”purpose framereason या purposeexact message
“I missed the bus, so…”soconsequence या next actionspeaker ने exactly क्या किया
“Would you like tea or…”choice frameदूसरा optionकौन-सा drink या option

  • “She wanted to come, but…”
  • “I stayed home because…”
  • “The train was delayed, so…”
  • “If the client agrees, we’ll…”
  • “Do you want to sit inside or…”
  • “There are several problems. For example…”
अपनी कोशिश के बाद possible directions देखें
  • but → contrast / limitation / change of direction.
  • because → reason / explanation.
  • so → consequence / action / result.
  • if clause के बाद → condition का possible result या action.
  • or → alternative / choice.
  • for example → example / illustration.

ExampleUseful prediction
Scene / contextकौन बोल रहा है, कहाँ, किस काम से?Café में server पूछता है कि आप क्या लेंगेchoice, quantity, size या order-related information आ सकती है
Sentence directionbut, because, so, if, or जैसी framing“I wanted to go, but…”contrast या obstacle
Familiar patternपहचाना chunk या collocation“The reason I’m asking is…”speaker अब purpose/explanation देगा

British Council की top-down और bottom-up listening guidance context, situation, topic और पहले से कही गई बात को expectations बनाने में useful मानती है—लेकिन साथ ही यह भी स्पष्ट करती है कि real listening में incoming sound को decode करना जरूरी है। यही balance चाहिए: context map देता है; audio सड़क दिखाता है।

Scene से language predict करने की छोटी practice

मान लीजिए तीन situations हैं:

  • doctor किसी patient को medicine दे रहा है;
  • airport staff delayed flight के बारे में बोल रहा है;
  • manager revised deadline discuss कर रहा है।

हर scene के लिए पाँच exact sentences बनाने की जरूरत नहीं। बस तीन kinds of language सोचिए जो plausible हों—जैसे dosage/time, delay/gate, reason/new date। British Council TeachingEnglish की Predicting language for context activity भी context के आधार पर likely language generate कराने को listening-skill practice से जोड़ती है।

कुछ words road signs की तरह काम करते हैं—लेकिन उन्हें traffic law मत बनाइए

Natural English में कुछ connectors और frames अगले chunk की function का अच्छा clue दे सकते हैं। इन्हें “इसके बाद हमेशा यही आएगा” rule की तरह नहीं, directional hint की तरह सुनिए।

Common directional cues और वे किस तरह का मोड़ खोल सकते हैं
Cueअक्सर किस direction की उम्मीद बनती हैIllustrative stem
butcontrast, limitation, correction of expectation“It looks nice, but…”
becausereason / explanation“I left early because…”
soresult / consequence / next action“The shop was closed, so…”
ifcondition, फिर उससे जुड़ा result/action“If it rains, we’ll…”
oralternative / choice“Do you want cash or…”
for exampleexample / illustration“There are cheaper options. For example…”

यहाँ first small win simple है: line खत्म होने से पहले आपको exact ending नहीं पता, लेकिन आपका ear अगली category के लिए ready है। यही “आधा कदम आगे” होना है—speaker से दो paragraphs आगे भागना नहीं।

जब कई endings possible हों, prediction को दो रास्ते दीजिए

Prediction अक्सर इसलिए टूटती है क्योंकि learner एक plausible continuation को the answer बना देता है। उदाहरण:

“If it rains, we’ll…”

आप सोचते हैं: stay home। लेकिन speaker कह सकता है:

  • “…move the party inside.”
  • “…take the car.”
  • “…cancel the picnic.”
  • “…still go, just bring umbrellas.”

Exact content बहुत खुला है। Useful prediction यह है: condition का response/action आने वाला है। अगर context थोड़ा ज्यादा clear हो, दो plausible branches रखिए—जैसे change the plan या continue with a workaround

Prediction fork: एक शब्द पर lock होने के बजाय range रखें
Stem / situationBranch ABranch Bजो सुनना है
“How was the interview?”positive evaluationnegative/mixed evaluationspeaker की actual evaluation
“I missed the bus, so…”alternative transport/actiondelay/consequencespeaker क्या consequence बताता है
“I thought the film would be boring, but…”positive surprisedifferent negative nuancecontrast की actual direction

Labelक्या हुआआप क्या करें
HitDirection और broad content दोनों करीब थेसुनते रहें; exact wording पकड़ने की जरूरत के अनुसार focus बदलें
CloseDirection सही थी, content अलग निकलाExact-word obsession छोड़ें; सही category को win मानकर audio follow करें
UpdateNew sound/context ने prediction बदल दीपुरानी guess छोड़कर newest clue से re-anchor करें

Worked example

आप सुनते हैं: “I thought the film would be boring, but…”

Prediction: “शायद वह कहेगा expensive या कोई complaint.”

Actual continuation: “…it was actually hilarious.”

Exact content गलत था; लेकिन but से contrast expect करना useful था। अब hilarious सुनते ही पुरानी complaint story छोड़िए। अपनी guess को सम्मानपूर्वक विदा कीजिए—उसकी pension नहीं बनती।

Update aloud drill

जब prediction टूटे, एक छोटा English update बोलें:

  • “No—this is a contrast.”
  • “No—now it sounds like a reason.”
  • “I expected a result, but this is an example.”

इस drill का goal perfect meta-language नहीं है। Goal है अपने mind को signal देना: old route closed; listen again from here.

अपनी prediction English में natural कैसे बोलें

Prediction practice speaking का भी अच्छा मौका है—लेकिन English में “guess” और “predict” हर context में एक जैसे नहीं लगते। Casual conversation में I think…, Maybe… या probably अक्सर ज्यादा natural होते हैं; predict grammatically सही है लेकिन कई everyday situations में ज्यादा deliberate या analytical सुन सकता है।

Prediction बोलते समय common learner-language traps
Learner कहता हैClassificationListener क्या समझेगाLikely intentNatural alternativeOriginal कब ठीक है
“I predict he’ll be late.”Unusual / overly formal for many casual guessesआप formally या deliberately future outcome predict कर रहे हैंCasually कहना कि शायद वह late होगा“I think he’ll be late.” या “He’ll probably be late.”Forecast, analysis, explicit prediction exercise या playful dramatic wording में predict बिल्कुल valid है।
“I did a guess.”WrongMeaning अंदाज़ा लगाया जा सकता है, लेकिन collocation गलत हैकहना कि आपने guess किया“I made a guess.” या “I guessed.”इस intended meaning में standard collocation make a guess है, do a guess नहीं।
“Maybe he will probably cancel.”Unusual / non-idiomatic for the intended simple probabilityCancellation uncertain है; message समझ आता है, लेकिन two probability markers stacked हैंकहना कि cancellation possible/likely है“Maybe he’ll cancel.” या “He’ll probably cancel.”Speakers कभी hedges stack कर सकते हैं, लेकिन learner के लिए एक clear probability marker ज्यादा natural model है।
“What comes after?”Context-dependentकिसी sequence/list में पूछ रहे हैं कि अगला item क्या हैStory या event में पूछना कि आगे क्या होता है“What happens next?”Numbers, steps, list, schedule या ordered sequence में What comes after…? natural हो सकता है।

Production: चार situations, चार predictions

हर situation के लिए एक natural English prediction बोलिए। अलग-अलग forms इस्तेमाल करें:

  • आपका दोस्त traffic में फँसा है → “I think…”
  • बारिश शुरू हो गई है और picnic planned है → “Maybe…”
  • shop closing time करीब है → “…will probably…”
  • आप intentionally prediction game खेल रहे हैं → “I predict…”

  3. लिखिए: Context ___, Strongest signal ___, Next category ___.
  4. अब सिर्फ एक plausible idea बोलिए—पूरा script नहीं।
  5. Audio resume कीजिए और अगले meaningful chunk तक सुनिए।
  6. अपनी prediction को Hit, Close या Update label कीजिए और एक line में लिखिए कि actual clue क्या था।
  7. यही cycle तीन pause points पर दोहराइए।
तीन pause points की listening sheet
Context / strongest signalNext categoryOne plausible ideaHit / Close / Update + new clue

तीन rounds के बाद अपना pattern diagnose करें
  • Exact words अक्सर wrong, category अक्सर right: यह ठीक है। अगली sessions में exact-word guessing और कम करें; category prediction रखें।
  • Category random लगती है: pause करते ही पहले context और एक sentence-direction signal identify करें; prediction बाद में करें।
  • Signal सही पकड़ते हैं, लेकिन एक ending पर lock हो जाते हैं: अगली बार two-branch prediction लिखें।
  • Audio prediction बदल देता है, फिर भी पुरानी meaning दिमाग में रहती है: mismatch पर update aloud करें: “No—now it sounds like…”

हर बार exact word नहीं—सिर्फ एक category बोलें: contrast, reason, result, choice, example, response, time/place या कोई दूसरी साफ category। फिर audio चलाएँ। Guess wrong हो तो बोलिए: “No—this is a reason, not a result.”
