I’m gonna go to Vietnam. は自然なinformal practice sentence。でも I’m gonna Vietnam. はNGです。音だけ縮めて、grammarまで縮めない。
- HEAR:gonna / wanna / gotta をchunkとして拾う
- EXPAND:going to / want to・want a / have got to へ戻す
- CHECK SLOT:full grammarがその位置で成立するか確認する
- CHECK REGISTER:casual speech/textか、formal/careful contextかを見る
- RE-SAY:使うならreductionへ戻して言う
gonna:going toなら何でも置き換えられるわけではない
BBC Learning EnglishのThe Pronunciation Lounge — Gonna, wanna and gottaでは、future constructionの going to が gonna になり、後ろにverbが必要だと説明されています。
- I’m gonna call her tonight. — natural informal target
- I’m gonna go to Vietnam. — natural informal target
- I’m gonna Vietnam. — wrong for this meaning
Cambridge Grammarも、be going to + base verb をfuture plansやpredictionsに使い、informal spoken contextsで gonna が使われることを説明しています。
wanna:中心はwant to。でもcontextを捨てない
Cambridge Dictionaryでは wanna をnonstandard short form of want to または want a としています。
この記事の中心は want to + verb。たとえば I wanna leave early.。ただし「wanna = want to」と100%固定せず、次のwordとmeaningを確認します。
gotta:targetはobligationのhave got to
Cambridge Dictionaryは gotta をnonstandard short form of have got to としています。
I’ve gotta finish this today. のようなnecessity/obligationがtargetです。I got to the station at nine. のようなliteral got to を同じruleで縮めません。
3-way check:soundだけでなくslotまで見る
A
Valid informal target. I’m going to call... → I’m gonna call...
B
Wrong for the intended travel meaning. Use I’m going to London tomorrow. or I’m gonna go to London tomorrow.
C
Valid informal target. I want to leave early. → I wanna leave early.
D
Valid informal target. I’ve got to finish... → I’ve gotta finish...
Register check:聞けることと、自分が使うことは別
Cambridgeは gonna / wanna / gotta をinformalまたはnonstandardとして扱っています。BBCも、こうしたspellingsは通常informal writing、たとえばtext messageのような場面で使われると説明しています。
| Situation | Recognition | Production choice |
|---|---|---|
| friends / casual conversation | とても役立つ | 自然なことが多い |
| casual text/message | 役立つ | informal styleならあり |
| job interview / formal presentation | 聞き取れると便利 | full formのほうが安全 |
| formal report / academic writing | recognitionは別問題 | 通常full spellingを選ぶ |

よくある置換ミスを修理する
| Original | 分類 | Listener interpretation | Intent | Natural alternative | Context note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| I’m gonna Vietnam. | wrong | travel intent is guessable, but required verb is missing. | Vietnamへ行く予定 | I’m going to Vietnam. / I’m gonna go to Vietnam. | BBC gives this structural warning. |
| I’m gonna to call her. | wrong | The extra to duplicates what is inside the reduction. | 電話する予定 | I’m gonna call her. | BBC also warns against wanna to / gotta to. |
| I gotta the station at nine. | wrong | Sounds like a malformed obligation construction. | 9時に駅に着いた | I got to the station at nine. | Literal got to meaning reached is not the target have got to. |
| I’m gonna attend the formal hearing. | context-dependent | The plan is clear; the form sounds casual/informal. | formal/careful deliveryで予定を述べる | I’m going to attend the formal hearing. | Original is valid casual speech even when the event is formal; the full form is safer when the delivery or writing context is formal. |
TRANSFER:同じ意味をcasualとcarefulで言い分ける
BBC Learning Englishも、recogniseしてからproduceする流れでこの3つを練習しています。accentによって母音の実現は少し変わり得るため、一つのaccentへ寄せるより、grammarとintelligibilityを優先します。
gonna・wanna・gottaは「秘密のnative code」ではありません。full grammarが見えれば扱えます。HEAR → EXPAND → CHECK SLOT → CHECK REGISTER → RE-SAY。音だけ縮めて、grammarまで縮めない。
