Phụ đề không giống audio? Phân loại mismatch, sửa chỉ phần ảnh hưởng shadowing, giữ chỗ chưa chắc là uncertain rồi retest với audio.
Khi shadowing, audio là source of truth; hãy sửa một personal shadowing transcript — bản transcript riêng để luyện — chỉ ở những chỗ subtitle khác lời nói thật và thực sự làm bạn imitate sai.
Subtitle nói What did you do?. Audio nghe rõ What did you end up doing?. Nếu bạn shadow subtitle, cụm end up biến mất trước khi practice kịp bắt đầu.
Transcript Repair Pass: listen first, edit second
- Listen first: replay short span trước khi edit.
- Classify: paraphrase, omitted/inserted wording, timing/boundary, punctuation-only, contraction/spelling hay uncertain?
- Repair locally: chỉ thay wording khi bạn nghe đủ chắc và mismatch thực sự ảnh hưởng imitation.
- Keep two jobs separate: published subtitle cho readability; personal shadowing transcript cho exact practice.
- Mark uncertain: chưa chắc thì để unresolved, không đoán cho câu đẹp.
- Retest: shadow repaired line với audio.

“Official transcript” vẫn có thể không word-for-word
Một official BBC Learning English transcript nói rõ rằng transcript đó không phải word-for-word. Đây là distinction rất quan trọng: một text có thể hoàn toàn legitimate cho learner/readability mà không phải exact record của từng word trong audio.
British Council Vietnam cũng khuyên learner nghe, viết điều mình nghe được rồi compare với script để tìm mismatch và hiểu vì sao mình nghe sai hoặc bỏ lỡ. Text ở đây là scaffold và diagnostic tool—not một lý do để override tai khi audio rõ.
Vì vậy đừng bắt đầu bằng câu “subtitle sai không?”. Hỏi: subtitle có đủ exact cho job shadowing này không?

Same spoken content
Probably representation issue. Đừng sửa chỉ vì spelling khác nếu phrase bạn cần shadow không đổi.
Paraphrase / condensation
Subtitle có thể vẫn valid cho reading. Tạo personal shadowing line gần audio hơn nếu paraphrase làm mất target phrase.
Audible wording missing
Restore locally nếu bạn nghe đủ chắc và phrase đó matter cho practice.
Subtitle-only wording
Replay trước. Chỉ bỏ khỏi personal practice transcript nếu bạn confidently xác nhận source không nói nó.
Timing / line-break mismatch
Adjust personal boundary/timing cue. Không cần rewrite wording nếu wording vốn đúng.
Uncertain audio
Mark unresolved. Một transcript trung thực có chỗ chưa chắc vẫn tốt hơn một câu “đẹp” nhưng invented.

Nếu subtitle viết I should've checked first, đó là context-dependent / equivalent written representation, không phải language error. Listener interpretation và intended regret meaning vẫn như nhau. Full form should have và contraction should've có thể là hai cách thể hiện cùng một phrase tùy style/text representation.
Đừng sửa chỉ vì apostrophe. Chọn representation giúp bạn track audio tốt hơn.
Replay source. Question: spoken material có thực sự khác, hay chỉ spelling khác?
Paraphrase có thể đúng cho subtitle nhưng tệ cho exact shadowing

What did you end up doing?
Subtitle What did you do? là grammatically valid with a less specific/different phrasing, không nhất thiết là subtitle error. Listener nhận một broad action question. Nhưng learner muốn shadow eventual-outcome phrase end up, nên subtitle đó thiếu target cần imitate.
Published subtitle vẫn có thể giữ nguyên. Personal shadowing transcript nên restore wording bạn confidently hear: What did you end up doing?
Shadow repaired personal line. Nếu end up khớp audio, keep repair.
Mismatch nhỏ có thể làm mất deadline hoặc interpersonal force

Could you send it by Friday?
Subtitle Can you send it Friday? có thể là context-dependent / grammatically possible informal shortening, nhưng không phải exact source wording và có thể làm explicit deadline relation by Friday kém rõ hơn. Listener có thể vẫn infer deadline từ context. Natural alternative cho exact shadowing là wording thực sự audible trong source.
Nếu audio rõ Could you send it by Friday?, personal practice transcript nên preserve could và by.
Repair only the audible wording, not the rest of subtitle file.

Subtitle Check with Sarah. là grammatically valid with a different force. Listener nghe direct instruction mạnh hơn; intended source stance là softened suggestion. Natural alternative cho exact practice là full audible source wording. Direct imperative vẫn valid khi direct instruction thật sự intended.
Exact shadowing cần giữ might want to nếu source nói nó, vì đó là phần của stance/rhythm chứ không phải decoration.
Retest repaired line and listen whether hedging phrase now follows source naturally.
Không nghe chắc? Đừng để grammar tự viết hộ audio
Một mistake nguy hiểm là nghe mơ hồ rồi “fill” word hợp lý nhất. Câu có thể đẹp hơn, nhưng practice target lại thành fiction.
British Council Vietnam khuyến khích dùng script/subtitle có mục đích để compare và dần bớt phụ thuộc. Nếu audio vẫn unclear sau replay, mark chỗ đó as uncertain và tiếp tục với phần chắc chắn.
Words đúng nhưng line break sai speech? Sửa boundary, không sửa sentence
Nếu subtitle tách giữa một phrase bạn cần nói liền—ví dụ end up / doing nằm qua hai caption frames—personal transcript có thể regroup lại thành one practice chunk.
Đây là repair cho usability. Nó không chứng minh published subtitle “sai”; subtitle timing còn phục vụ reading constraints khác với shadowing.
Two-column repair note: chỉ sửa một line
- Published subtitle: text gốc đang thấy.
- What I confidently hear: wording bạn thật sự hear.
- Mismatch type: representation, paraphrase, missing, extra, timing hay uncertain.
- Personal shadowing transcript: version cho exact practice.
- Uncertain: optional unresolved span.
Không cần tạo “perfect transcript.” Bạn chỉ cần map đủ accurate cho line đang luyện.
Retest: repaired transcript có chịu nghe lời audio không?
Nếu repaired line vẫn buộc bạn nói một word mà tai không nghe thấy, quay lại audio. Practice map chưa đúng chỉ vì bạn vừa tự edit nó.

Subtitle có thể đúng cho người xem mà chưa đủ exact cho shadowing. Hai job khác nhau, nên hai text khác nhau không phải scandal.
