Original practice example
They bought a new laptop.
NO-PAUSE MAP:這句可以自然連續地說完,不需要在 they / bought / a / new / laptop 每個 boundary 放 silence。
Original practice example
She can finish it today.
STRESS CUE:如果 finish、today 比較 prominent,先把它們當 possible lexical anchors;但不要因此把比較弱的 she / can / it 當成不存在。
Original practice example
We found another option.
Original practice example
He called after lunch.
Original practice example
They need an answer now.
- Pass 3 — transcript:只計算 segmentation errors:missed boundary、false boundary、missed weak word。
這輪不要順便因為一個 vocabulary word 不知道就判自己整段失敗。今天練的是放 spaces,不是考滿分 dictation。
三個英文說法,幫你把 boundary problem 說得更精準
| 原句 | 分類 | 聽者會理解成 | 你可能想表達 | 自然替代 | Context note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| I listen for a pause between every word. | 文法成立,但意思不同 | 你期待每個 lexical boundary 都有 pause。 | 你想找 word divisions。 | I use several cues to work out where one word ends and the next begins. | Pauses 可以標更大的 phrase/discourse boundary,但不會替每個 word 畫線。 |
| All stressed syllables start new words. | 文法成立,但意思不同 | stress 是 deterministic segmentation rule。 | strong syllables 是 useful possible word starts。 | Strong syllables can be useful clues to possible word beginnings. | 這個 cue 是 probabilistic。 |
| The words are connected, so there are no boundaries. | 文法成立,但意思不同 | connected speech 把 lexical structure 完全消除。 | boundaries 在 acoustic signal 裡不明顯。 | The words are connected, so the boundaries are harder to hear. | Lexical boundaries 仍然存在,只是不一定有 silence。 |
如果只記一件事:不要等 English 幫你按空白鍵
你找不到 word boundaries,不代表你沒聽到 sounds。你需要的是 segmentation strategy。
STRESS → CANDIDATES → POSSIBLE WORD → CONTEXT → CHECK。
先讓 stress 給你 likely starts,再讓 lexical candidates 競爭;任何會留下 impossible residue 的 parse 先降級;最後用 grammar、meaning 和 transcript 做驗證。慢慢地,原本那條「一整串黏住的 English」會開始重新長出 spaces。
