英文聽得懂卻說不出口?先找出卡住的環節

英文明明聽得懂,一輪到自己卻說不出口?用 Message → Fetch → Build → Launch → Stay 五道出口,找出是想法、找詞、組句、出聲還是互動卡住。

The short answer

聽懂只代表 input 已經進來;要說出去,還得完成想法規劃、找詞、組句、出聲,以及在互動裡修復與接話。先找第一個卡點,再練那一段,比把所有問題都叫「口說不好」有用。

對方講完你明明懂,輪到你卻只剩 Uh...。先別急著替自己的英文下總判決。說話是一條輸出鏈,堵在哪裡,修法就不一樣。

五道出口:Message → Fetch → Build → Launch → Stay

  • Message:你到底想講哪個重點?
  • Fetch:熟悉的字或詞塊,需要時叫得出來嗎?
  • Build:字都有了,能快速組成一句嗎?
  • Launch:腦中有句子,嘴巴能順利把它送出去嗎?
  • Stay:對方追問、沒聽清或打斷時,你還留得住對話嗎?

研究中的口語產出模型本來就把 speaking 拆成 message conceptualization、linguistic formulation 與 articulation 等過程;所以「說不出口」不是一個單一故障。查看 speech-production study

Message:如果連中文都說不清楚,先別怪英文單字

朋友問:What did you do this weekend?

先完全不管英文,只用一句中文或最簡單的英文說出重點。如果你連「我要講累了所以待在家」還是「我要講去吃飯」都一直換,第一個 bottleneck 可能在 message planning。

Original practice example

The main thing I want to say is that I was tired, so I stayed home.

先選 message,再優化英文。內容都還沒選好時,背更多單字通常救不了這一關。

回答週末、工作、意見、經驗類問題。

先把答案縮成一個 message,再進下一關。

Fetch:看得懂的字,不一定在開口時叫得出來

L2 vocabulary research 顯示 receptive vocabulary 可以大於 productive vocabulary。也就是說,你看到或聽到一個字會認,不代表需要時一定能快速取回。查看 receptive/productive vocabulary study

測法很簡單:message 固定後,不給完整句,只給 situation。你能不能叫出一個夠用的 phrase?

Original practice example

I don’t know the exact word, but I mean a place where you book a table.

找不到完美單字時,先把 message 送出去。這同時也是 Fetch 的測試:你能否改走已經會的字?

忘了 reservation、特定職稱或不熟的名詞時。

禁止自己等那個完美單字,改用已知字解釋同一件事。

Same message, easier path

忘了 reservation,不必把整句扣在海關。你可以直接說:

I need to book a table for two.

口說的目標是把意思送出去,不是證明你每次都能拿到字典裡最漂亮的那個詞。

Build:單字都有,卻一直在腦中重排句子

Speech formulation 包含 lexical、grammatical 與 phonological encoding;L2 learner 的這些程序常比熟練母語產出更不自動化。查看 L2 fluency study

測試 Build:把你需要的 keywords 直接放在眼前。如果還是一直改 word order、tense、clause,可能不是「沒單字」,而是組裝還太費力。

Original practice example

I’d recommend this place because it’s quiet and easy to get to.

可重用 sentence frame 能減少每次從零組句的負荷。

推薦餐廳、城市、工具、課程。

保留 I’d recommend ___ because ___.,換內容,不換骨架。

Launch:

Stay:自己會說,一有真人追問就掉線

口語互動不是單向錄音。研究綜述也把 clarification、confirmation、asking/giving explanations 視為 oral interaction 的重要技能。查看 listening/speaking review

Original practice example

Give me a second—what I mean is that the timing doesn’t work for me.

Repair phrase 不是失敗,它是在買時間、保住 turn,讓你重新 formulation。

被追問、說錯一半、想換說法時。

故意卡住一次,再用 repair phrase 回來,而不是整段放棄。

  • Could you say that again?
  • I don’t know the exact word, but...
  • Let me put it another way.

What did you do this weekend?

Message test:我連重點都選不好

先用中文或超簡單英文定一個 message。若內容一直變,先練 message planning。

Fetch test:意思固定,但字叫不出來

給 situation cue,不給完整句。若 cue 一出現就能叫回 phrase,productive retrieval 值得練。

Build test:keywords 都有,還是一直重排

用熟悉 frame 重講。如果 frame 大幅降低卡頓,formulation load 是重要線索。

Launch test:文字拿掉,聲音開始崩

比較看稿讀、模仿後說、無文字自己說。只在反覆同一 sound/rhythm 位置出錯時,才把練習縮到 Launch。

Stay test:第一句沒事,追問就停機

加一個 Why?。練 repair、clarification、ask-back,而不是要求自己完全不停頓。

“I know the English, but I can’t speak it out” 聽得懂,但不太自然

學習者說法: I know the English, but I can’t speak it out.

分類:可理解,但以「我知道卻說不出來」這個意思來說不太自然。

聽者可能理解:你知道英文內容,但 verbalize 有困難。

更自然: I understand it, but I can’t get the words out. / I know what I want to say, but I can’t put it into English.

注意:speak out 不加 it 時常表示公開、大聲表達意見,例如 speak out against unfair treatment,是另一個意思。

  • 口語:I know what I mean, but I can’t get the words out.
  • 中性:I understand it, but I struggle to express it in English.
  • 分析型:I can understand the input, but I can’t retrieve and formulate the response quickly.

60 秒 production:說出你的第一個卡點

  • I usually understand the question, but I get stuck when...
  • I think my first bottleneck is...
  • An easier way to say the same message is...
  • When I get stuck in conversation, I can say...

找第一個紅燈,不要判整條路報廢

英文聽得懂卻說不出口,不代表你「其實都沒學會」。Listening 和 speaking 共用很多語言知識,但 speaking 還要把 message 轉成可取回、可組裝、可發出的語言,最後還得在真人互動裡活下來。

先問:Message、Fetch、Build、Launch、Stay,我的第一個卡點在哪?找到之後,修一段、重做同一 task,再看 failure pattern 有沒有變。
