किसी ने पूछा, “What do you think?” जवाब आपको पता है—लेकिन पहले हिंदी sentence तैयार होता है, फिर translation, फिर grammar check… और तब तक आपका turn आधा निकल चुका होता है। समस्या हमेशा knowledge नहीं होती। कई बार problem सिर्फ route होती है।
“बस English में सोचो” कहना थोड़ा वैसा है जैसे beginner swimmer से कहना, “बस डूबना बंद करो।” काम की चीज़ instruction नहीं, एक छोटा repeatable रास्ता है:
- Meaning
- What did you do yesterday evening?
- Do you like working from home? Why?
- What would you do if your flight was delayed?
अब देखें कौन-सा pattern सबसे ज़्यादा हुआ:
मैं English जानता था, लेकिन पहले पूरा हिंदी sentence बनाया
यह mental-translation bottleneck का अच्छा candidate है। आपके लिए सबसे useful अभ्यास नीचे वाला tiny English exit drill है: full answer नहीं, पहले सिर्फ एक छोटा English start.
पहले meaning के pieces निकालिए: uncertain opinion; he seemed upset; he left early.
अब English: “Maybe he was upset. He left pretty early.”
अगर और nuance चाहिए: “I’m not sure, but he seemed upset, so maybe that’s why he left early.”
दोनों messages useful हैं। दूसरा पहले का “perfect translation” नहीं है; वह उसी meaning का अधिक detailed English version है। यही skill चाहिए।
Step 2: full sentence नहीं—पहले tiny English exit
अगर हर जवाब को दस-शब्द की sentence से शुरू करना पड़े, brain naturally familiar L1 route पकड़ सकता है। इसलिए शुरुआत इतनी छोटी रखिए कि English जल्दी उपलब्ध हो सके।
| Situation | Tiny English exit | फिर चाहें तो बढ़ाएँ |
|---|---|---|
| आप सहमत नहीं हैं | Not really. | Not really. I see it a bit differently. |
| आप unsure हैं | I’m not sure. | I’m not sure, but I think it starts at eight. |
| आपको सोचने का समय चाहिए | Give me a second. | Give me a second. I need to check. |
| कुछ expectation से बेहतर था | Better than I expected. | Better than I expected, especially the ending. |
| आपके लिए इतना काफी है | That’s enough, thanks. | That’s enough, thanks. I don’t need anything else. |
Goal “तेज़ बोलना” नहीं है। Goal है conversation में English का पहला usable piece जल्दी उपलब्ध होना।
Mini practice: पहले सिर्फ 1–5 शब्द
Model answer देखने से पहले हर prompt का tiny response बोलिए:
“Did you enjoy the movie?”
Possible start: Yeah, mostly.
Expand: Yeah, mostly. The middle was a little slow.
“Can you finish this today?”
Possible start: I think so.
Expand: I think so. I should be done by five.
“Do you want to go out tonight?”
Possible start: Maybe not tonight.
Expand: Maybe not tonight. I’m pretty tired.
Step 3: tiny response को एक reusable frame से बढ़ाएँ
अब हर thought को zero से मत बनाइए। कुछ multiword frames repeatedly इस्तेमाल करने से speech planning आसान हो सकती है; formulaic-sequence research ने कुछ learner groups में oral-fluency के कुछ temporal measures पर benefits दिखाए हैं, हालांकि effects हर measure या learner के लिए समान नहीं हैं। Tavakoli और Uchihara का instructional study इसका एक bounded example है।
- I think ___ because ___.
- The main reason is ___.
- I’m not sure, but ___.
- What I mean is ___.
- The problem is ___.
Frame तभी useful है जब आप उसका slot बदल सकें और अलग situation में वही structure निकाल सकें।
Step 4: missing word आए तो translation search बंद करके idea describe करें
अगर receipt याद नहीं आ रहा, दिमाग में emergency meeting बुलाने के बजाय कहें: “Can I get the paper that shows what I paid?”
अगर charger याद नहीं: “Do you have the thing I can use to charge my phone?”
यह हमेशा सबसे elegant English नहीं होगी, और होनी भी नहीं चाहिए। इसका job है conversation को चलाना। बाद में exact word सीख लें।
सबसे बड़ा trap: हिंदी sentence बचाने की कोशिश
| Hindi thought | Minimum meaning | Possible English |
|---|---|---|
| मुझे लगता है अभी जाने का सही समय नहीं है | not a good time to leave | I don’t think this is a good time to leave. |
| मुझे उससे इस बारे में बात करने में थोड़ा अजीब लग रहा है | uncomfortable talking to her about it | I feel a little awkward talking to her about it. |
| अगर बहुत देर नहीं हुई तो मैं आ जाऊँगा | come if it isn’t too late | I’ll come if it’s not too late. |
I’m not sure that’s a good idea.” → I’m not sure that’s necessary. / I’m not sure that’s the right time. / I’m not sure that will work.
अगर अभी आपका English thought सिर्फ “Not now,” “I’m tired,” “Maybe later,” “I don’t know,” या “That makes sense” है, तो वह “कम” English नहीं है। पहले route बनता है, फिर range बढ़ती है। अगली बार “What do you think?” सुनें, तो perfect Hindi answer translate करने से पहले एक छोटा English exit निकालिए: “I’m not sure, but…”
