ホテルの英語シャドーイング｜チェックインと部屋の相談
ホテルでI have a reservationの先が止まる人へ。ARRIVE→SHADOW→FLAG→OPTION→CONFIRMで、チェックイン・部屋の相談・staffの提案・最終確認まで往復して練習します。
hotel check-inのguest lineだけでなく、reservation detailを確認し、room issueを具体的に伝え、staffのoptionを聞き、最後にwhat was agreedを確認するところまでshadowingします。
The room is too noisy. は言えた。staffが長く返してきて、聞こえたのは tomorrow だけ。そこで OK.。でも何がtomorrow？ requestを言った時点では、まだ相談は半分。
- ARRIVE：reservation / nights / room typeをanchorする
- SHADOW：receptionistとguestの両turnを追う
- FLAG：one concrete need/problemを言う
- OPTION：staffが何をofferしたか取る
- CONFIRM：agreed action / timing / roomを言い返す
ARRIVE：check-inではreservation detailを短くanchorする
Cambridge Dictionaryのreservationは、hotel roomなどを自分のために確保してもらうarrangementを指します。front deskはhotel entrance近くで、arrival時の対応やinformationを受けるdeskです。
まずはfictional check-in dataでshadowします。

SHADOW：guestだけでなくreceptionist turnも言えるようにする

一回目はreceptionistだけshadow。二回目はguestだけ。三回目はroleをswitchしながらwhole exchangeを言います。
Double room と twin roomを同じにしない
Cambridge Dictionaryのdouble roomはhotelでtwo people向けのroomと説明されています。一方、Cambridge Essentialのtwin roomは、一人用のseparate bedsがtwo bedsあるroomです。

FLAG：room problemはone concrete factで伝える
British CouncilのLost your voiceは、hotel guestのproblemとしてTV not working、broken window、no hot water、room key not opening the doorなどを使い、guest/receptionist role-playを行います。
British Council LearnEnglishのEpisode 10にも、roomがtoo hotだったというguest complaintとfront desk interactionがあります。
このlessonではcomplaintを大きくしません。まずone observable fact。

OPTION：staff responseをshadowしてから選ぶ
ここがhotel shadowingのcoreです。自分のrequestを言えたら、次はstaffが何をofferしたかを取ります。
以下はすべてwriter-original fictional practiceです。
Option A — inspect now
Receptionist: I can ask someone to check the window now.
Meaning: someone can inspect/check the issue now.
Option B — check room availability later
Receptionist: I can also check whether another room is available later.
Meaning: the receptionist can check availability. This does not promise that another room will definitely be available.
Option C — needs clarification
Receptionist: Would you prefer us to look at the problem first, or would you like me to check other room options?
Meaning: learner must choose what they want the hotel to investigate first.
requestを言った時点では、まだ相談は半分。 OPTIONのverbに注目します。can check と will move you は同じではありません。
CONFIRM：requestではなく、agreed next stepを言い返す
staffのoptionを選んだあと、最後の一文でagreementをlockします。

聞き取れなかったら、agreementをguessしません。

ARRIVE line。reservation nameをwhole chunkで言い、staffのrepeat-back detailを聞く準備をします。
front deskでcheck-inを始める場面。
「佐藤の名前で予約しています。」
Satoを自分のnameに変え、two nights / three nightsのstaff responseもshadowしてください。
Original practice example
We booked a twin room, but this room has one bed.
FLAG line。room typeとobservable mismatchをseparate factsとして伝えます。
two separate bedsを予約したつもりだがactual roomを確認したい場面。
「ツインルームを予約しましたが、この部屋にはベッドが一つです。」
最後にCould you check the reservation, please?を足してshadowしてください。

one concrete FLAG + open OPTION question。room changeをalready agreedだとassumeしません。
noiseについてfront deskへ相談する場面。
「通りに面していてかなりうるさいです。どんな対応が可能か教えてもらえますか？」
noiseをtemperature / key problemへ変え、fact部分だけ書き換えてください。

CONFIRM line。check whetherを保ち、availabilityをpromiseへ勝手にupgradeしません。
staffがlater availabilityを確認すると言った場面。
「では、あとで別の部屋が空いているか確認してくれる、ということですね？」
laterをafter six / tomorrow morningへ変えて、time detailもconfirmしてください。

ホテルで一番避けたいpractice errorは、自分のrequestをhotelのpromiseへ変えてしまうことです。

British CouncilのEpisode 10をlistenするときも、guest complaintだけではなく、front-desk responseで「何を聞き返したか」「何を説明したか」をcatchしてください。

requestを言った時点では、まだ相談は半分。 hotel shadowingでは、自分の英語よりstaffの返事でpracticeを止めない。one concrete factをFLAGし、OPTIONを聞き、what was actually agreedをCONFIRMする。そこで初めてhotel conversationが一周します。
