I agree / I disagreeだけでは強すぎる人へ。
Online classes are cheaper and better for everyone.。 ここで I agree. 全部にYes/Noを付けない。claimをsplitする。
- HEAR:whole claim
- SPLIT:yes-part / different-part
- ALIGN:full / partial / disagree
- PIVOT:partial/disagreeならdifferenceへ移る
| Claim | Yes-part | Different-part |
|---|---|---|
| Online classes are cheaper and better for everyone. | can be cheaper | better for everyone |
| Short meetings are efficient, so every meeting should be fifteen minutes. | short meetings can be efficient | every meeting = 15 minutes |
| The train is comfortable, so it’s always the best choice. | comfortable | always best |
ALIGN:full agreement
British CouncilのAgreeing and disagreeingでは、full agreementとして I agree.、I think you’re right.、Yes, definitely.
British Councilのsame lessonでは、I see what you mean, but... I see what you mean
Cambridge Dictionaryのup to a point は「partly / to a limited degree」という意味です。
- I agree up to a point, but some meetings need more time.
- I see what you mean, but I don’t think it works for everyone.
- I agree that it’s cheaper, but convenience depends on the person.
up to a point
I’m not so sure.、I think I disagree.、I’m not convinced by that idea.
I disagree.
Remote work is flexible, so it’s best for every task.
Weak:
I agree, but I disagree.
Clear:
I agree that remote work is flexible, but I don’t think it’s best for every task.
REASON:difference
I see what you mean about the train being comfortable, but I’m not sure it’s always the best option because it can be expensive.
3-claim partial-agreement lab
A model
I agree that online classes can be cheaper, but I don’t think they’re better for everyone.
B model
I agree up to a point. Short meetings can be efficient, but some topics need more time.
C model
I see what you mean about comfort, but I’m not sure the train is always the best option because it can be expensive.
agree with / agree on / agree to を分ける
Cambridgeでは、agree with someone は人とsame opinionを持つ意味、agree on something はtopic/decisionについて同じopinionに達する意味で使われます。
| Pattern | Job | Example |
|---|---|---|
| agree with someone | その人とsame opinion | I agree with Maya. |
| agree on something | topic/decisionについて一致 | We agree on the main point. |
| agree to something | proposal/termsをaccept | We agreed to the change. |
4つのagree/disagree practice card
Original practice example
I agree. The simpler design is easier to read.
Original practice example
I see what you mean, but I don’t think online classes work better for everyone.
Original practice example
I agree up to a point, but some meetings need more time.
Up to a pointはlimited agreement。
Original practice example
I’m not so sure. I think the bus is more practical for this trip.
| Original | 分類 | Listener interpretation | Intent | Natural alternative | Context note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| I agree you. | 相手に賛成する | I agree with you. | Cambridgeはsame-opinion senseでagree with someoneを示しています。 |
| I am agree with you. | 相手に賛成する | I agree with you. | I am in agreement with you. |
| I agree to your opinion. | 相手のopinionと同じ意見だと言う | I agree with your opinion. / I agree with you. |
| I see what you mean, so I agree. | 相手のpointは理解するがfull agreementではない | I see what you mean, but I’m not sure I agree.
全部にYes/Noを付けない。
