ホテルでI have a reservationの先が止まる人へ。

hotel check-inのguest lineだけでなく、reservation detailを確認し、room issueを具体的に伝え、staffのoptionを聞き、最後にwhat was agreedを確認するところまでshadowingします。

The room is too noisy.

  3. FLAG:one concrete need/problemを言う
  5. CONFIRM:agreed action / timing / room

ARRIVE:check-inではreservation detailを短くanchorする

Check-inでanchorするdetail
DetailWriter-original line
reservation nameI have a reservation under Sato.
stayWe’re staying for three nights.
room typeWe booked a twin room.

Check-in mini dialogue

Receptionist: Good evening. Do you have a reservation?

Guest: Yes, I have a reservation under Sato.

Receptionist: I have you for three nights in a twin room. Is that correct?

Guest: Yes, that’s right.

Cambridge Dictionaryのdouble roomはhotelでtwo people向けのroomと説明されています。一方、Cambridge Essentialのtwin roomは、一人用のseparate bedsがtwo bedsあるroomです。

TermVerified core meaningUseful learner check
double roomroom for two peoplebed configurationをassumeしすぎない

We booked a twin room, but this room has one bed. Could you check the reservation, please?

FLAG:room problemはone concrete factで伝える

British CouncilのLost your voiceは、hotel guestのproblemとしてTV not working、broken window、no hot water、room key not opening the doorなどを使い、guest/receptionist role-playを行います。

British Council LearnEnglishのEpisode 10にも、roomがtoo hotだったというguest complaintとfront desk interactionがあります。

FLAG one concrete issue
VagueConcrete FLAG
The room is bad.The room is quite noisy because it faces the street.
The room is wrong. We booked a twin room, but this room has one bed.
The key is bad.The key card isn’t opening the door.
It’s too hot.The room is still very hot even after I adjusted the control.

Could you tell me what options are available?

Option A — inspect now

Receptionist: I can ask someone to check the window now.

Meaning: someone can inspect/check the issue now.

Option B — check room availability later

Receptionist: I can also check whether another room is available later.

Meaning: the receptionist can check availability. This does not promise that another room will definitely be available.

Option C — needs clarification

Receptionist: Would you prefer us to look at the problem first, or would you like me to check other room options?

Meaning: learner must choose what they want the hotel to investigate first.

can checkwill move you は同じではありません。

Request → option → confirmation
You askedStaff offeredCONFIRM
quieter room?check window nowSo someone will check the window now, right?
another room?check availability laterSo you’ll check whether another room is available later, correct?
bed type mismatchcheck reservation firstSo you’ll check the reservation first?

  • Sorry, did you say someone can come now?
  • Could you say that option again, please?
  • Do you mean you’ll check availability, or that another room is already available?

Room-consultation lab:noise problem

Fictional situation: room faces a busy street and is too noisy.

ARRIVE → SHADOW → FLAG → OPTION → CONFIRM
Guest FLAG

The room is quite noisy because it faces the street. Could you tell me what options are available?

Receptionist OPTION

I can ask someone to check the window now. I can also check whether another room is available later.

Guest choice + CONFIRM

Could someone check the window first, please? So someone will come to check it now, right?

4つのhotel shadowing practice card

Original practice example

I have a reservation under Sato.

ARRIVE line。

Satoを自分のnameに変え、two nights / three nightsのstaff responseもshadowしてください。

Original practice example

We booked a twin room, but this room has one bed.

FLAG line。

Could you check the reservation, please?

Original practice example

The room is quite noisy because it faces the street. Could you tell me what options are available?

one concrete FLAG + open OPTION question。

Original practice example

So you’ll check whether another room is available later, correct?

CONFIRM line。

laterをafter six / tomorrow morningへ変えて、time detailもconfirmしてください。

Hotel check-in and consultation repair
Original分類Listener interpretationIntentNatural alternativeContext note
I have reservation under Sato. wrong bookingがあるmeaningは分かりますが、singular count nounのarticleがありません。 I have a reservation under Sato. reservationはこのmeaningでcountableです。
We reserved a double room with two beds. context-dependent two-person room with two bedsというliteral meaningはpossibleですが、two separate bedsをhotel room typeとして明確に求める意図は曖昧です。 We booked a twin room. Cambridgeのcore definitionsではdouble room = room for two people、twin room = two separate beds。Property terminology can vary.
The room is too much noisy. wrong noiseが強すぎるmeaningは推測できますが、adjective noisyのdegree patternが違います。 The room is too noisy. very noisy / too noisyなどを使います。
Change my room, please. context-dependent room changeを直接command/requestしています。 Is another room available? / Could you tell me what options are available?

Request is not agreement
You saidWhat it meansWhat still needs to happen
Could I move to another room?you askedhear staff answer
I can check whether another room is available.staff can checkavailability is not confirmed yet
We have another room available now.option exists in this fictional scenarioconfirm whether you want it / next step

fact → option → confirm。

Full consultation replay:check-in → room issue → option → confirm

Step 1 — ARRIVE

Receptionist: Good evening. Do you have a reservation?

Guest: Yes, I have a reservation under Sato.

Receptionist: I have you for three nights in a twin room.

Guest: Yes, that’s correct.

Step 2 — FLAG

Guest: The room is quite noisy because it faces the street. Could you tell me what options are available?

Step 3 — OPTION

Receptionist: I can ask someone to check the window now. I can also check whether another room is available later.

Step 4 — choose + CONFIRM

Guest: Could someone check the window first, please? So someone will come to check it now, right?

Final drill:same request, three possible responses

Guest line:

The room is too noisy. Could you tell me what options are available?

  • Someone can check the window now.
  • I can check whether another room is available later.
  • Could you give me your room number first?

ARRIVE → SHADOW → FLAG → OPTION → CONFIRM

one concrete factをFLAGし、OPTIONを聞き、what was actually agreedをCONFIRMする。
