Luyện câu hỏi nối tiếp bằng tiếng Anh: vượt khỏi câu trả lời đã học
Nghe câu trả lời, bắt một hook rồi hỏi tiếp bằng Detail → Reason → Experience → Feeling → Frequency → Next Step để giữ conversation đi tiếp.
Đừng lục trí nhớ tìm “một câu hỏi hay”. Hãy nghe câu trả lời vừa rồi và bắt đúng một hook—place, person, reason, feeling, frequency, problem hoặc next step—rồi hỏi tiếp từ hook đó.
Bạn đã trả lời được câu hỏi đã học. Great. Nhưng nếu turn tiếp theo luôn là im lặng hoặc And you?, conversation vẫn chưa thật sự đi đâu.
Hear Answer → Catch One Hook → Choose Question Job → Ask One → Listen Again
- Hear Answer: nghe trọn câu, đừng chuẩn bị câu hỏi quá sớm.
- Catch One Hook: chọn một chi tiết đáng theo.
- Choose Question Job: detail, reason, experience, feeling, frequency hay next step?
- Ask One: hỏi đúng một câu.
- Listen Again: câu trả lời mới sẽ cho bạn hook mới.
Don’t search for a question. Listen for a hook.
Nó là response to information.
Bảy loại hook dễ bắt nhất
- Place: I went hiking in Sapa.
- Person: My friend invited me.
- Reason: I started because I needed a break.
- Feeling: It was exhausting but amazing.
- Frequency: I go every few months.
- Problem: We got lost for an hour.
- Next step: I’m planning another trip in spring.
Hook xong, chọn một question job
- DETAIL: What / where / which part?
- REASON: Why / what made you...?
- EXPERIENCE: Have you done that before?
- FEELING: How did you feel? What was hardest/best?
- FREQUENCY: How often? When was the last time?
- NEXT STEP: What are you going to do next?
British Council TeachingEnglish notes that open-ended/referential questions can elicit more language than narrow closed questions. Bạn không cần mọi follow-up phải open-ended, nhưng nếu mục tiêu là conversation dài hơn, đây là useful default.
Hook nào vừa xuất hiện?
Place
Ask for a detail: Which part did you like most?
Person
Ask relationship/shared activity: Do you still go together?
Reason
Ask consequence/current relevance: Did it help? / Is that still why you do it?
Feeling
Ask experience depth: What was the hardest part?
Frequency
Ask last/next time or companion.
Problem
Ask solution: How did you solve it?
Next step
Ask plan detail: Where are you thinking of going?
Bốn follow-up questions: hook đúng chưa đủ, form cũng phải ổn
Original practice example
Which trail did you take?
Nếu learner hỏi Which trail you took?, hãy phân loại là wrong trong direct past-simple question. Listener hiểu intent DETAIL, nhưng natural alternative là Which trail did you take?.
Hook: place/activity detail after I went hiking in Sapa.
Keep did + base verb intact.
Original practice example
Do you still go together?
Do you still go together? và Do you still go with your friend? đều grammatically valid and context-dependent. First version relies more on the person already being clear from context; second is more explicit.
Hook: person after My friend invited me.
Choose explicitness based on whether the referent is clear.
Original practice example
What was the hardest part?
Nếu learner hỏi What did was the hardest part?, hãy phân loại là wrong. Với be trong câu này, không dùng did. Natural alternative là What was the hardest part?.
Hook: feeling after It was exhausting but amazing.
Ask about one side of the contrast.
Original practice example
When are you planning to go again?
Nếu learner hỏi When you are planning to go again?, hãy phân loại là wrong for direct-question word order. Natural alternative là When are you planning to go again?.
Hook: frequency/time after I go every few months.
Turn frequency information into a next-step question.
Ba cách giết conversation dù câu hỏi đúng grammar
- Random jump: answer nói hiking, bạn hỏi favourite movie.
- Question stack: Where did you go and who with and how long and was it expensive?
- Interrogation mode: five follow-ups liên tiếp mà không share anything yourself.
One or two follow-ups are enough. Then react, share a little, or let topic change naturally.
Practice không cần partner thật ngay
Dùng một short interview/dialogue:
- Pause sau answer.
- Say the hook aloud: place, reason, feeling...
- Ask one follow-up.
- Resume source and hear what actual speaker asks next.
- Compare relevance—not exact wording.
TeachingEnglish uses follow-up questioning in pair speaking precisely to extend answers into conversation.
The answer already contains your next question
You do not need a giant list. You need to hear one hook.
Listen. Catch one detail. Choose a question job. Ask one. Listen again.
Don’t search for a question. Listen for a hook.
