SHADOWABILITY AUDITION
| Check | 20 秒內問什麼 | Fail 時怎麼辦 |
|---|---|---|
| MEANING | minimal support 後,我大致知道在說什麼嗎? | 先處理 blocking words / content |
| SIGNAL | target voice 清楚到足以比較嗎? | 找 cleaner segment / different clip |
| LOAD | speed + syntax + vocab 難,但還跟得到嗎? | 降一個變數 |
| CHUNK | 能切出短、完整 thought unit 嗎? | extract smaller phrase / thought unit |
- 有一個完整意思;
- 可以快速定位重播;
- 短到你第二次還記得第一次哪裡不一樣。
不需要固定「一定幾秒」。如果一句很短卻 syntactically dense(句法很密),照樣可能比兩句簡單對話更難。
PAYOFF:這段到底有什麼值得你偷走?
最糟的 shadowing target 是:「我要聽起來更 native。」太大、太模糊,也沒辦法 repair。
一段值得留下的 clip,最好讓你指得出至少一個 feature:
- 一個 reduction / connected-speech pattern;
- 一句清楚的 sentence stress;
- 一段 rhythm;
- 一個 intonation contour;
- 幾個自然 thought groups;
- 一種你真的想 reuse 的 conversational delivery。
這和 shadowing research 的設計很一致:prosody shadowing本來就是把 attention 明確放到 stress、rhythm、intonation。不是所有 replay 都叫 deliberate practice。
USE、MODIFY,還是 REJECT?先猜,再打開
Clean interview、topic 熟悉,只有一個 tricky reduction,你每次都卡在同一處。
USE IT。 Meaning 和 signal 都穩,還有可重複觀察的 target。這種「固定卡點」反而很好修。
很精彩的電影 scene,但音樂蓋句尾、三個人同時講。
MODIFY 或 REJECT。 如果能 isolate 一句 cleaner line,就留下;如果 target signal 一直被遮住,這段更適合 entertainment/listening exposure,不適合 precise shadowing。
Podcast 很清楚,但每句都有好幾個 unfamiliar technical terms。
MODIFY MEANING。 先處理 blocking vocabulary;不要同時再追 speed、stress 和 pronunciation。
Audio 很慢、很清楚,你完全不費力,但也說不出自己要修什麼。
MODIFY PAYOFF。 Easy 不等於 useful。提高 target richness:例如挑有 weak forms、contrastive stress 或自然 phrasing 的 material。
長 monologue 一整段跟不上,但切出一個完整 thought unit 後突然可以比較。
MODIFY CHUNK,然後 USE。 問題是 unit size,不一定是你的 overall level。
四句英文:把 material fit 說清楚
Original practice example
The speaker is clear, but the sentence is too dense to shadow.
dense 在這裡不是「聲音不清楚」,而是資訊或結構很密;too + adjective + to-infinitive 表示目前難到無法完成某動作。
適合把 SIGNAL 和 LOAD 分開診斷。
意思:speaker 很清楚,但這句資訊太密,目前不適合 shadow。
完成:The ___ is clear, but the ___ is too ___ to ___.
Original practice example
I need a shorter chunk with the same rhythm.
a shorter chunk 是很自然的比較級 noun phrase;with the same rhythm 表示改 unit size,但保留 practice target。
適合 CHUNK repair。
意思:我需要更短的片段,但要保留同樣的節奏。
替換:rhythm / stress pattern / intonation。
Original practice example
This clip gives me a clear stress pattern to copy.
give someone something 可以用來描述素材提供的 learning target;a pattern to copy 是「一個可以模仿的模式」。
適合說明 PAYOFF。
意思:這段 clip 有一個很清楚、值得模仿的重音模式。
完成:This clip gives me a clear ___ to copy.
Original practice example
This audio is too fast for me to follow.
如果學習者說 This audio is too fast for follow,對 intended meaning 是錯的。自然結構是 too + adjective + for someone + to-infinitive。
適合描述 speed mismatch,而不是把一段素材太快解讀成整體英文程度太低。
意思:這段音訊對我目前來說太快,跟不上。
完成:This ___ is too ___ for me to ___.
現在拿一段你真的想 shadow 的 audio
五項大致通過,就用。少一兩項,先只修一項再 test。多項一起崩,就換 clip。這不是逃避難度,是保住 feedback。

所以,如何挑選適合影子跟讀的英文音訊?別先問它夠不夠 native、夠不夠快。
先問:我能不能理解它、聽清它、跟住它、切小它,最後指出一個值得修的東西。 不是選最難的音訊,是選最能修的音訊。
