英語で意見を言う練習｜結論に理由を一つ添える
I think…の次で止まる人へ。POINT→WHY→FIT→TRIM→PASSで、結論を先に言い、becauseで理由を一つだけ添える短い英語意見を練習します。
spoken opinionは長いessayにしなくて大丈夫です。まずPOINTを一文で言い、becauseでWHYを一つだけ添えます。
I think working from home is better. ここで止まる。理由を聞かれたら、頭の中で急にessayを書く。そんな必要はありません。POINT一つ、WHY一つ。 …because I can focus better. を足せば、short spoken opinionとしてもうcompleteです。
- POINT：結論を一文で言う
- WHY：becauseで理由を一つだけ付ける
- FIT：WHYが本当にPOINTを説明しているか確認する
- TRIM：second/third reasonをいったん削る
- PASS：必要なら相手へturnを返す
POINT：最初に結論を置く
Cambridge GrammarのThinkでは、I think (that)... をopinionとして使う形が説明されています。Opinionでは、In my opinion... も個人のopinionを示す形として紹介されています。

In my opinion I think... とmarkerを重ねる必要はありません。Cambridgeもこの組み合わせを避けるよう示しています。
WHY：becauseで理由を一つだけ足す
British Councilのspeaking activityでも、I think... because... のようにopinionとreasonをつなぐ形が使われています。
bare opinion：
I think studying in the morning is better.
one reason：
I think studying in the morning is better because I can concentrate more easily.
これで十分です。second reasonがなくても、POINTとWHYがつながっていればcompleteなturnです。
Becauseとbecause ofを混ぜない
Cambridgeのbecause / because ofでは、because の後ろにはclause、because of の後ろにはnoun/noun phraseが来ると説明されています。

Cambridgeはbecauseをspeakingでよく使われ、reasonにfocusするconnectorとして説明しています。まずはこれ一つで十分です。
FIT：そのWHY、本当にそのPOINTの理由？
reasonが文法的に正しくても、POINTとつながっていなければanswerは弱くなります。
simple testは一つだけ：“Why this POINT?” にそのWHYが答えているか。
TRIM：理由を足しすぎない
最初からthree reasonsを入れると、spoken Englishは急にmemory testになります。
Overloaded:
I think cooking at home is better because it’s cheaper, and it’s healthier, and I can choose the ingredients, and also...
Trimmed:
I think cooking at home is better because I can choose exactly what goes into the meal.
このpageではone reasonまで。もっと話したければ、相手がfollow-upしたあとにsecond reasonを足せます。one turnをone essayにしない。

PASSはoptionalです。このpageのmain jobは自分のPOINT＋WHYを作ること。相手のopinionにagree/disagreeするskillは別jobです。

POINTの直後にone WHY。理由はmeeting lengthというexact topicを支えています。
workやclassでmeeting styleについて意見を言う場面。
「短い会議のほうがいいと思います。みんな集中しやすいからです。」
short / longの自分のPOINTへ替え、理由を一つだけ言ってください。

In my opinionを使ったらI thinkを重ねません。
restaurant/caféなどcasual preferenceを説明する場面。
「私の意見では、このカフェのほうがいいです。静かだからです。」
placeを一つ選び、POINT+WHYを作ってください。

opinion markerなしでもI prefer...がclearなpreferenceを作れます。
travelやcommuteのchoiceを話す場面。
「電車のほうが好きです。途中でリラックスできるからです。」
train / car / busなど自分のchoiceへ替えてください。

For meでpersonal preferenceとしてscopeを狭くし、その理由を一つ添えています。
study routineやhabitについて話す場面。
「私には夜の練習のほうが合います。時間が多く取れるからです。」

POINT一つ、WHY一つ。 英語で意見を言うとき、最初からdebate winnerになる必要はありません。clearな結論にrelevantな理由を一つ付ける。それだけで、止まらないspoken turnになります。
