- LOCATE:sound / wording / meaning
| Problem | What happened? | Best first move |
|---|---|---|
| WORDING | wordsは聞こえたがphrase・expressionが分からない | rephrase / explain another way |
| MEANING | 意味のcandidateはあるが確信がない | Do you mean…?
Could you say that again, please? や Can you repeat that more slowly, please?
- Sorry, could you say the last part again?
- Could you repeat the time, please?
- Could you say that a little more slowly?
- I didn’t catch the last word.
Cambridge DictionaryのPardon?
Let’s push it back.
この場合、Could you repeat that?
- Could you say that another way?
- Could you explain what you mean?
- Could you use a simpler word?
British Councilのsame lessonでは、Do you mean…?
- Do you mean you need the final version today?
- Do you mean the meeting is cancelled?
- So you mean we should wait here?
Could you explain what you mean?
4-case repair lab
A:SOUND
Sorry, could you say the last word again?
B:WORDING
Could you say that another way? または Could you explain what you mean?
C:MEANING
Do you mean you need the final version today?
D:VERIFY
Just to confirm, the deadline is Friday at three, right?
| Information | Verification |
|---|---|
| deadline | So the deadline is Friday at three, right? |
| instruction | So you want me to send the draft first, correct? |
| amount | Just to confirm, you said thirty, not thirteen? |
| meeting change | Do you mean the meeting has moved to Monday? |
Sure, I’ll do it.
- Got it. Thanks.
- Right, I understand now.
- OK, I’ll send it by then. — confirmed deadlineなら
- That makes sense. So what should we do next?
Original practice example
Could you say the last part again, please?
SOUND breakdown。
Original practice example
Could you say that another way?
WORDING breakdown。
Original practice example
Do you mean the meeting is cancelled?
MEANING breakdown。
Original practice example
Just to confirm, the deadline is Friday at three, right?
VERIFY。
| Original | 分類 | Listener interpretation | Intent | Natural alternative | Context note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Can you repeat again? | もう一度言ってもらう | Can you repeat that? / Could you say that again? |
| Can you explain me that? | それを自分に説明してもらう | Can you explain that to me? | Could you explain what you mean? はwording/meaning repairで便利です。 |
| What means “deadline”? | deadlineの意味を聞く | What does “deadline” mean? |
| Sorry, what? | 聞こえなかったのでrepeatしてほしい | Could you say that again, please? | Cambridgeは Sorry, what? relationship/contextで選びます。 |
Final drill:same repair
