How to Install and Set Up the Funfluen Chrome Extension

Funfluen makes learning languages through movies and series effortless — and the Chrome extension is the easiest way to start. In just a few steps, you can add Funfluen to your browser, enable subtitles on your favorite platforms like Netflix, YouTube, or Disney+, and start turning every scene into a language lesson.

💡 What You’ll Need

Before installation, make sure you have:

  • Google Chrome installed (latest version recommended)

  • A Funfluen account (you can sign up for free)

  • Access to one of our supported streaming platforms: Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, or HBO Max

🧭 Step 1 — Visit the Chrome Web Store

  1. Open Chrome and go to the Funfluen Chrome Extension page in the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Click “Add to Chrome.”

  3. In the pop-up window, confirm by selecting “Add Extension.”

The installation takes only a few seconds. Once complete, you’ll see the Funfluen icon appear in your Chrome toolbar (top-right corner).

🔐 Step 2 — Pin the Extension for Easy Access

After installation, it’s a good idea to pin Funfluen so it’s always visible:

  1. Click the puzzle icon (Extensions) next to your Chrome address bar.

  2. Find Funfluen in the list.

  3. Click the pin icon to keep it visible in your toolbar.

Now, you’ll be able to access Funfluen instantly whenever you visit a supported site.

🎬 Step 3 — Log In to Your Funfluen Account

  1. Click the Funfluen icon in your toolbar.

  2. Sign in with your Funfluen credentials.

    • If you’re new, click “Create an account” to register in seconds.
  3. Once logged in, you’re ready to start using Funfluen across supported platforms.

Your account will automatically sync your saved words, flashcards, and progress between Chrome and mobile.

🎥 Step 4 — Open Your Favorite Streaming Platform

Funfluen currently supports:

  • Netflix

  • YouTube

  • Disney+

  • HBO Max (coming soon to mobile)

Open any movie or episode, and Funfluen will activate automatically — showing the dual-subtitle toolbar beneath the video.

💬 Step 5 — Turn On Dual Subtitles

To enable subtitles in both your native and target languages:

  1. Click the Funfluen icon below the video player.

  2. Choose your primary (target) and secondary (native) languages.

  3. Toggle Dual Subtitles ON.

You’ll now see both subtitle lines while watching — making it easier to connect meaning, grammar, and pronunciation in real time.

🧠 Step 6 — Explore Fluency Gym and Other Tools

After setup, you can unlock Funfluen’s unique learning tools right inside Chrome:

  • Fluency Gym — Practice Reading, Listening, and Speaking with the “guess before reveal” method.

  • AI Packs — Get instant explanations for idioms, proverbs, and collocations from your current scene.

  • Hover Dictionary — Hover over any word for an instant translation and pronunciation.

  • Flashcards — Save words or sentences to review later using spaced repetition.

These features turn ordinary watching into an active, personalized learning experience.

⚙️ Optional Settings

Click the gear icon ⚙️ in the Funfluen toolbar to customize your experience:

  • Change subtitle colors or font size.

  • Adjust playback sync with Subtitle Delay buttons.

  • Enable Auto-Pause or Timed Auto-Play for practice pacing.

  • Toggle Hide/Show Second Subtitle for focus-based training.

🧾 Troubleshooting

Q: I installed Funfluen but don’t see it on Netflix.

  • Make sure you’re using the Google Chrome browser, not another browser.

  • Refresh the page or restart Chrome.

  • Confirm you’re logged in to your Funfluen account.

Q: The subtitles are out of sync.

  • After ads or buffering, tap the Sync Buttons below the subtitles to readjust timing.

  • Funfluen will automatically detect and notify you when ads may have caused desync.

Q: I can’t log in.

  • Try clearing your cookies or using Incognito Mode.

  • If the issue persists, contact [email protected] for assistance.

🚀 Next Steps

Once your extension is installed and working, try:

  • Opening a Netflix series and testing dual subtitles.

  • Using Fluency Gym → Speaking Mode to shadow native actors.

  • Saving 5–10 new words to your Flashcards for review tomorrow.

These small steps will immediately boost your listening and speaking skills.
