Overview​

Blur the Sentences turns subtitles into a mini memory workout. You pick which subtitles to blur—upper, lower, or both—so you listen first, guess the line, then reveal by hovering. This simple “guess → reveal” loop shifts you from passive reading to active recall, which strengthens comprehension, vocabulary retrieval, and speaking confidence.

Terminology: Upper subtitle = the top line on screen; Lower subtitle = the bottom line. (Often the upper line is the target language and the lower line is the translation, but that depends on your setup.)

Step-by-Step ​

  1. Open a movie. Press play.
  2. Go to Sidebar → Settings.
  3. Open “Appearance.” Scroll down to Subtitle Blur.
  4. Choose what to blur: Upper, Lower, or Both subtitles.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Watch the scene. The words are fuzzy now.
  7. Guess the sentence. Say it out loud if you can.
  8. Move your mouse over the subtitle. Hover to see it clearly.
  9. Did you get it right? Great—next line!
