Shadowing được nhưng vẫn không tự nói? Dùng Copy → Bend → Answer → Continue để biến câu mẫu thành câu của bạn rồi nói thêm một ý không có trong audio.
Nếu bạn shadow khá mượt nhưng tắt audio là đứng hình, vấn đề không nhất thiết nằm ở shadowing. Có thể practice của bạn chưa bao giờ yêu cầu tự chọn nội dung. Thêm bridge: Copy → Bend → Answer → Continue.
Khi audio chạy, source đang làm khá nhiều “project management”: chọn words, quyết định timing, đưa content. Khi source biến mất, bạn mới phải tự làm cả ba.

- Copy: shadow model sentence đủ ổn để frame không còn là blocker.
- Bend: giữ frame, đổi một true detail.
- Answer: hide model rồi trả lời một related prompt bằng information của bạn.
- Continue: thêm một reason, example hoặc follow-up sentence không có trong source.

Vì sao shadow được vẫn có thể không tự nói được?
British Council Vietnam mô tả shadowing quanh việc nghe source và lặp theo. Đó là model-led production. Self-speaking thêm một job khác: bạn phải chọn content và wording mà source không đưa sẵn.
Một systematic review năm 2025 cũng lưu ý rằng nhiều nghiên cứu shadowing dùng controlled speaking tasks, nên performance tốt trong imitation task không tự động chứng minh spontaneous transfer.

1. Bend: đổi một detail, không viết lại cả sentence
Original practice example
I usually work from home.
I usually work from a café. cũng grammatically valid. Đây không phải correction; đây là ownership. Bạn giữ sentence frame rồi thay một detail thật.
Bend giúp mouth giữ structure trong khi brain bắt đầu chọn content.
Change only place, time or person first.
2. Answer: hide model rồi bắt buộc tự chọn wording
Model: I usually work from home.
Prompt: Where do you usually work?
Your answer: sentence thật của bạn. Không replay model trước khi answer.
British Council Vietnam khuyến khích learner tự nói thành tiếng thay vì chờ performance hoàn hảo. Ở đây, self-speaking chỉ cần một bounded answer—not a five-minute monologue.
3. Continue: thêm một idea source không cho bạn
Original practice example
I’d rather stay home tonight.
Nếu learner nói I’d rather to stay home tonight, hãy phân loại là wrong. Listener hiểu preference. Natural alternative là I’d rather stay home tonight. Pattern là would rather + base verb, không có to.
After shadowing, answer “What would you rather do tonight?” rồi add one reason.
I’d rather stay home tonight because I’m exhausted.
Original practice example
I didn’t mean to interrupt.
Nếu learner nói I didn’t mean interrupt, hãy phân loại là wrong. Listener vẫn recover apology intent. Natural alternative là I didn’t mean to interrupt. Pattern là mean to + verb.
After shadowing, answer a fresh prompt: “What happened?” Then explain the situation in your own words.
Do not repeat the model apology as the whole answer.
Original practice example
Could you send it by Friday?
Nếu learner nói Could you send it until Friday? với intended deadline meaning, form đó unusual / non-idiomatic. Listener có thể hear duration. Natural alternative là by Friday; until Friday vẫn valid trong durative contexts.
Bend: change deadline. Answer: “When do you need it?” Continue: explain why.
I need it by Monday because the meeting is Tuesday morning.

Self-speaking bắt đầu khi source ngừng nghĩ hộ bạn
Shadowing vẫn có giá trị: nó cho bạn wording, timing, phrase shape và một launchpad. Nhưng nếu goal là nói độc lập, thêm một task nơi content thật sự đến từ bạn.
