Bạn nói This clearly proves that online learning is better.

Người khác hỏi: Better for whom, and based on what?

CLAIM → BASIS → BOUNDARY → RESPONSE

My view is that shorter weekly quizzes may help students stay engaged, mainly because they provide more frequent feedback. That said, this probably depends on how much weight the quizzes carry.

Original practice example

My view is that shorter weekly quizzes may help students stay engaged.

Xem Cambridge — Hedges.

  • một reason;
  • một observation;
  • một finding đã được source hỗ trợ;

Original practice example

My main reason is that they provide more frequent feedback.

Explaining a position in a seminar or study group.

University of Manchester Academic Phrasebank tách khá rõ finding, possible explanation, limitation và implication.

Original practice example

That said, this probably depends on how much weight the quizzes carry.

Limiting a claim in a seminar or research discussion.

Xem University of Manchester — Being cautious.

RESPOND TO A PEER: challenge interpretation, không challenge con người

British Council’s B1 speaking material dùng những phrase như I see what you mean, but…, I’m not so sure và I think I disagree để disagree mà không cần nhảy thẳng vào No, you’re wrong. Xem British Council — Agreeing and disagreeing.

Original practice example

I see what you mean, but I’m not sure the evidence supports that conclusion.

Seminar disagreement and research-group discussion.

Nếu question mơ hồ, Cambridge notes that checking questions can repeat/reformulate part of what was heard to confirm understanding. Xem Cambridge — checking questions.

Ví dụ:

Do you mean the way the quizzes are designed, or how the results are measured?

Original practice example

I don’t have evidence on long-term retention specifically. My point is narrower: the quizzes may increase feedback frequency.

Answering a question that goes beyond the evidence you currently have.

I’m not sure yet. That would need to be checked separately.

Discussion Response Lab: câu hỏi này đang đòi move nào?

Your claim: Weekly quizzes may improve engagement.
Question: What evidence supports that?

Xem move phù hợp

EVIDENCE. Nói đúng observation/source bạn có. Nếu bạn chỉ có a reason, đừng gọi nó là data.

Question: Would this work for all students?

Xem move phù hợp

LIMIT. I wouldn’t generalise it to all students. My point is limited to the context we’ve been discussing.

Question: But what about the method?

Xem move phù hợp

CLARIFY. Do you mean the way the quizzes are designed, or how the results are measured?

Peer: So these results prove that online learning is more effective.

Xem move phù hợp

DISAGREE / SCOPE. I see what you mean, but I’m not sure the results support that broad a conclusion.

Question: Does this also improve long-term retention?
You have no retention evidence.

Xem move phù hợp

UNKNOWN / NEXT STEP. I don’t have evidence on long-term retention specifically. That would need to be tested separately.

Bài thử: 60 giây seminar, rồi tự hỏi ngược mình

  1. Chọn một topic học thuật/course/research bạn thật sự biết.
  2. Nói một CLAIM.
  3. Thêm một BASIS.
  4. Thêm một BOUNDARY.
  5. Tự đặt một follow-up question khó nhưng fair.
  6. Answer đúng phần bạn know; nếu thiếu evidence, nói boundary và next step.
