用 Attend → Align → React → Pull,學會用 mm-hm、I see、right、really、got it 等 listener responses,讓對方知道你有在聽又不搶話。

The short answer

Attend → Align → React → Pull

  • React:Really?Oh wow. —
  • Pull:Go on.What happened next?

English response-token study

Attend:

Original practice example

Speaker: I had to wait almost an hour. — Listener: Mm-hm.

I see.

Original practice example

Speaker: The second plan gives us more time. — Listener: Right, that makes sense.

React:

Original practice example

Speaker: Then they upgraded us for free. — Listener: Really? Oh wow.

unexpected news、funny turn、surprising result、genuinely emotional content。

Partner 給你三個內容:neutral、good surprise、bad surprise。

Original practice example

Speaker: And then something even stranger happened. — Listener: What happened next?

Backchannel vs floor-taking:

Actually, I think the first option is better.

I see、right、yeah:

  • Right.:可能是 recognition、alignment 或 acknowledgment;context 決定多少 stance。

  • Got it—so you need the draft by Friday.
  • That makes sense. Let me make sure I understood: Friday, right?

I understand

Same Story, Four Listener Jobs

Speaker 說:I missed my train this morning, so I had to take a bus. Then the bus broke down, but a stranger offered me a ride, and I still made it to the meeting.

Round A — Goal: Attend

Best type:minimal recipiency。

Mm-hm. / Yeah. / I see.

Round B — Goal: Align

Speaker 補充:Taking the bus was still the best option.

Right, that makes sense.

Round C — Goal: React

Speaker:A stranger offered me a ride.

Really? / Oh wow.

Round D — Goal: Pull

Speaker:And then something even stranger happened.

What happened next? / Go on.

High-stakes variation — Friday deadline

Speaker:Please send the draft by Friday.

Got it—so you need the draft by Friday.

“I am listening you” 哪裡不自然?

I am listening you.

I’m listening. / I’m listening to you.

Context note:hear 可以直接接 object:I can hear you.listen 一般是 listen to...。

One-story replay

Listen visibly, not loudly

Attend → Align → React → Pull

What happened next?
