Migaku Cannot Connect to Anki? Fix the Browser-to-Anki Link

Migaku cannot connect to Anki? Check the Anki destination, desktop app, official Migaku add-on, supported version, connection, and one test card.

The short answer

Current Migaku uses its own Migaku Anki Add-on as the browser-to-Anki bridge. Check that official bridge before installing generic AnkiConnect or an unofficial “Migaku bridge.”

Your card makes it all the way to Send and then falls through a trapdoor. Before you rebuild decks, templates, or half of Anki, find the exact link that failed: destination → desktop Anki → official Migaku add-on → supported version → connection → one test card.

Where does the card stop?

Use the earliest failed checkpoint to choose the next action.

First: use the right bridge

Migaku’s current Card Creator can send cards to either Migaku Memory or Anki. Its Card Creator documentation confirms that choice.

For Anki, Migaku distributes its own Migaku Anki Add-on. The current official listing uses add-on code 1846879528, was updated May 7, 2026, and lists a current compatibility branch covering Anki 2.1.61 through 25.09+.

That is the bridge this guide troubleshoots. Do not start by installing a generic AnkiConnect add-on or an unofficial “Anki Bridge for Migaku.” Adding a second bridge before proving the official one is missing usually creates a second problem, not a diagnosis.

What is happening technically?

You do not need to configure this manually. Migaku’s official add-on source shows that the Migaku add-on runs the local connection used by the browser extension. The repository documents a WebSocket connection between the Migaku Extension and the add-on. The useful takeaway is simple: Migaku’s own add-on is the local endpoint the browser extension expects.

Link 1: make sure the card destination is actually Anki

This sounds almost insultingly simple—which is why it is a good first test. Migaku can send cards to Migaku Memory or Anki. If the destination is set to Migaku Memory, there is no Anki connection failure to repair yet.

  1. Open Migaku’s Card Creator.
  2. Check the destination setting for created cards.
  3. Select Anki if Anki is the destination you intend to test.
  4. Do not change card fields or deck design yet.

Your deck is innocent until proven guilty. First prove that Migaku is actually trying to send the card to Anki.

Link 2: open desktop Anki and leave it running

The Migaku Anki Add-on lives inside desktop Anki. If Anki is closed, the local add-on connection is not available for the browser extension to use.

Anki was closed

Open Anki, let it finish loading, then return to Migaku and send one test card. If that works, stop. You do not need another add-on.

Anki was already open

Move to the add-on identity check. An open Anki window proves only that Anki is running—not that Migaku’s bridge is installed, enabled, current, and compatible.

Link 3: verify the official Migaku Anki Add-on

In Anki, open Tools → Add-ons. You are looking for Migaku’s official add-on, not an old Migaku Dictionary add-on and not an unofficial bridge.

The current official AnkiWeb page is Migaku Anki Add-on, code 1846879528.

Official bridge check

If you install, enable, disable, or update an Anki add-on, restart Anki before retesting so the changed add-on state is actually loaded.

Link 4: check your Anki version against the current add-on listing

The current Migaku Anki Add-on listing does not claim compatibility with every Anki release ever made. As checked August 24, 2026, its current branch lists support from Anki 2.1.61 through 25.09+.

My Anki version is inside the currently listed range

Good. After confirming the official add-on is enabled, restart Anki and move to the one-card connection test.

My Anki version is outside the currently listed range

Do not pretend the connection is a normal supported-state failure yet. Check the current Migaku Anki Add-on listing for updated compatibility information before changing unrelated Migaku settings.

Link 5: restart cleanly, then send one ordinary test card

Now isolate the transport from card complexity.

  1. Close and reopen Anki after any add-on change.
  2. Keep Anki running.
  3. Reload the page where you are using the Migaku Browser Extension if needed.
  4. Open the Card Creator and confirm Anki is still the destination.
  5. Create one normal, simple card using Migaku’s usual card-creation flow.
  6. Send it to Anki and check whether it arrives.

Migaku’s card-creation documentation describes sending created cards to Anki as a normal supported action. One clean card is enough to prove the connection before you test more complicated cards.

The test card arrives

The browser-to-Anki link works. Stop troubleshooting transport. Any remaining problem with a specific card belongs to a different layer such as card content or configuration, which this article deliberately does not cover.

The test card fails and Migaku shows an add-on/send error

Copy the exact error before changing anything else. Migaku’s 2026 changelog notes improved surfacing of Anki add-on failures when sending cards, so that message is useful evidence for support.

The test card fails without a useful visible error

If the destination, open Anki, official enabled add-on, current compatibility, and restart are all confirmed, move to the stopping rule below rather than installing random bridge add-ons.

When to stop local repairs and check Migaku’s current status

Migaku has shipped product-side fixes for this integration before. Its changelog records an August 26, 2025 fix for reliability problems in the Extension → Anki connection and an August 11, 2025 Anki card-creation fix that told users to update the Migaku Anki Addon.

Past fixes do not prove a current outage. They do prove that a fully clean local setup should not lead to endless self-blame.

Stop changing local settings when all of these are true:

Connection stopping rule

If every box is checked, check Migaku’s current changelog/support and report the failure. Do not install an unofficial bridge just because the official bridge is having a bad day.

Send a report that identifies the failed link

Anki version:
Migaku Anki Add-on version, if visible:
Migaku Browser Extension version:
Card destination set to Anki? Yes/No
Was desktop Anki open? Yes/No
Official add-on code 1846879528 installed/enabled? Yes/No
Restarted Anki after add-on changes? Yes/No
Did one simple test card arrive? Yes/No
Exact surfaced error, if any:
When did this last work, if known:

That report is much more actionable than “Anki doesn’t connect,” because it tells Migaku which part of the official bridge you already proved.

What this fix is not about

  • Deck design, fields, note types, scheduling, or review settings.
  • AnkiWeb synchronization.
  • Importing Anki collections into Migaku.
  • Choosing between Migaku Memory and Anki as a study system.
  • Migaku account-login loops.
  • Netflix, YouTube, or other video-site activation.

A separate browser-learning option, if that is what you actually need

FunFluen does not repair the Migaku-to-Anki connection and this is not an Anki-integration recommendation. If you separately want to evaluate another Chrome-based language-learning extension, you can review the FunFluen Chrome extension before installing it.

Fix the official bridge, not a substitute bridge

The current Migaku-to-Anki path is finite: Anki destination → desktop Anki → official Migaku Anki Add-on → supported version → restart → one test card.

If the card arrives, the transport is fixed. If every local checkpoint passes and the simple card still fails, capture the exact send error and check Migaku’s current release/support status. That is the point to escalate—not the point to stack another unofficial connection layer on top.
