Migaku Not Working on Netflix? Extension, Permission, and Player Checks
Migaku not working on Netflix? Check Chrome support, extension state, Netflix site access, player activation, subtitle loading, and recent Migaku fixes.
Migaku currently supports Netflix through its desktop Chrome extension. If it is not working, check Chrome, the extension, Netflix site access, the player state, Migaku’s toolbar/subtitles, and then the current Migaku release—in that order.
Netflix is happily playing your show while Migaku has apparently gone on lunch. Do not start with a reinstall. “Migaku not working on Netflix” can describe several different failures, and the earliest missing layer tells you what to check next.
Start with the symptom: which layer is actually missing?

One change, one reload, one observation. That is far more useful than changing six settings and hoping the right one feels guilty.
First, confirm you are in Migaku’s supported desktop setup
Migaku’s current getting-started FAQ lists Netflix as a supported site for the Migaku Browser Extension. Its installation guide says the desktop extension is for Google Chrome. Migaku notes that Chromium browsers such as Brave or Arc may work, but it does not officially support them.
I am using Chrome and Migaku is installed
Good. Open Chrome’s extension manager and make sure Migaku is switched on. Then continue to the Netflix access check.
I am using Brave, Arc, or another Chromium browser
Do not diagnose the Netflix integration as though you were in Migaku’s supported desktop environment. Migaku says those browsers may work, but they are not officially supported. Reproduce the problem in Chrome before treating it as a Netflix-specific Migaku failure.
Google’s current Chrome Help documents the basic extension controls under Extensions → Manage extensions, including turning an extension on or off and changing its site access.
Next, check whether Migaku can run on Netflix
An extension can be installed and enabled but still lack access to the site you are testing. Chrome lets you control whether an extension can read and change data on the current site, specific sites, or all sites.
- Open a Netflix tab in Chrome.
- Open Extensions → Manage extensions.
- Open Migaku’s Details.
- Under site access, make sure Migaku is allowed to operate on Netflix rather than being blocked from the site.
- Return to Netflix and reload the playback page once.

You found the missing layer. Stop changing unrelated Chrome settings.
Migaku already has Netflix access
Move on. Repeatedly changing the same permission will not tell you anything new; now test whether Migaku recognizes an active Netflix player.
Start actual Netflix playback and look for Migaku’s video controls
Migaku’s video-site documentation describes its toolbar and subtitle controls on streaming platforms such as Netflix and YouTube. That gives you an important visible checkpoint.
Open a Netflix title and start playback. Do not judge the integration from the Netflix home page or title-detail page alone. After playback starts, look for Migaku’s video interface.
No Migaku video controls appear at all
You are still in the player-recognition branch. Confirm Chrome, enabled extension, and Netflix site access once more, then reload the playback page. If those checks are already clean, skip ahead to the current-version section rather than clearing all browser data.
Migaku’s video controls appear
That is a meaningful pass. The extension has visibly activated on the Netflix player. If your problem is missing Migaku subtitles, treat that as a later loading problem—not as evidence that the extension is absent.
Toolbar present but subtitles missing? Do not restart from zero
If Migaku’s controls are visible but subtitles are not loading, you have already passed several earlier checks. This is where generic “reinstall the extension” advice becomes especially wasteful.
Migaku’s own changelog records a Standard Release fix on June 2, 2026 for Netflix subtitles not loading for some users. It also records Netflix subtitle display/readings fixes on July 27, 2026.
Those historical fixes do not prove there is a current outage. They do prove something useful: Netflix subtitle failures can be product-side integration bugs, not merely a missed permission on your machine.
- Confirm the Netflix title is actively playing and has the subtitle/audio state you expect in Netflix itself.
- Reload the playback page once.
- Check whether Chrome has an update available for the Migaku extension.
- If the failure remains Netflix-specific, check Migaku’s current changelog or support/community status before destructive browser cleanup.
When to stop changing Chrome settings
Stop local troubleshooting when all of these are true:
If every box is checked and Netflix is still the only failing supported site, do not perform a full Chrome exorcism. Migaku’s recent release history shows that Netflix-specific regressions happen. Check the current Migaku changelog and report the exact symptom.
Send Migaku a report that identifies the failing layer
Collect a short reproduction note before contacting Migaku support or its community:

That separates “Migaku never activates” from “Migaku activates but Netflix subtitles fail,” which are very different reports.
What this article is deliberately not fixing
- Migaku-to-Anki connection or authorization.
- Migaku account or browser-to-web-app login loops.
- YouTube, Disney+, Viki, or other platform failures.
- Flashcard design or card audio.
- Netflix’s own subtitle availability when Migaku itself is functioning normally.

Find the earliest missing layer—and stop there
Migaku still officially supports Netflix. The useful question is not simply “Why is Migaku broken?” It is: where does the Netflix Activation Chain stop?
Chrome → extension enabled → Netflix access → player recognized → Migaku controls → subtitles → current release. Find the first failed checkpoint, change one thing, reload once, and retest. If all the local checkpoints are green, the next useful move is checking Migaku’s current release/support status—not deleting more of your browser.
