FunFluenTừ shadowing đến nhớ chủ động: nói lại câu mà không nghe mẫu
Sau shadowing, tắt audio và transcript rồi dùng meaning cue để Recall → Check → Repair câu đã học trước khi replay mẫu.
Nếu câu chỉ “nhớ” khi audio vừa bắt đầu, memory chưa thật sự có lượt chơi. Sau shadowing, tắt audio + transcript, giữ một meaning cue nhỏ, rồi nói câu trước khi replay.
Bạn có thể shadow một line nghe cực quen, rồi tắt source và mất nửa câu. Đó không phải nghịch lý. Source đang cue wording cho bạn. Bây giờ ta cho recall một lượt trước khi model cứu.

- Hear & Shadow: luyện một sentence/short chunk đủ quen về meaning và phrase shape.
- Hide: tắt audio, giấu transcript.
- Cue: giữ meaning, situation hoặc question—not full English wording.
- Recall: nói câu từ memory trước khi replay.
- Check: mở source và compare.
- Repair: sửa một missing/changed chunk rồi recall lại từ cùng cue.
Recall first, replay second.
Cue phải gợi meaning, không đọc hộ sentence
British Council Vietnam cho phép transcript/subtitle đóng vai trò scaffold và khuyến khích giảm dependence theo thời gian. Với active recall, scaffold còn lại chỉ nên đủ để nhắc context.
Good cues:
- Nghĩa tiếng Việt.
- Một situation: “Bạn hối tiếc vì không kiểm tra trước.”
- Một prompt: What should you have done?
- Một visual/context note.
Too-strong cues: full sentence, gần-full cloze, hoặc replay nửa đầu audio rồi mới “recall” nửa sau.
Nếu cue chứa 90% sentence, memory đang được customer service hơi nhiệt tình.
Model tắt rồi chuyện gì xảy ra?
Meaning survives, chunk missing
Good diagnostic. Recall smaller target or repair đúng chunk rồi thử lại.
Sentence returns after a pause
Keep the cue and retry once. Đừng replay chỉ vì hesitation xuất hiện.
First-word cue unlocks everything
Cue có thể quá strong. Switch sang meaning/situation cue.
Valid paraphrase appears
Nếu goal là meaning recall, có thể acceptable. Nếu goal là target phrase recall, paraphrase chưa chứng minh phrase được retrieve.
Nothing returns
Target có thể quá dài hoặc chưa đủ learned. Shorten unit và quay lại supported shadowing briefly.

Original practice example
I should have checked first.
Nếu recall thành I should checked first, hãy phân loại là wrong cho intended past regret. Natural alternative là I should have checked first. I should check first lại valid với present/future meaning khác.
Cue: “Hối tiếc vì không kiểm tra trước.” Repair target chỉ là should have checked.
Hide source again and recall from meaning cue.
Original practice example
What did you end up doing?
Nếu recall thành What did you end doing? với intended eventual-outcome meaning, form đó unusual / non-idiomatic. Listener có thể vẫn understand rough meaning. Natural alternative là What did you end up doing?.
Cue: “Cuối cùng bạn đã làm gì?” Target phrase: end up doing.
Do not replay before first recall attempt.
Original practice example
Could you send it by Friday?
Nếu recall thành Could you send it until Friday? với intended deadline meaning, form đó unusual / non-idiomatic. Listener có thể hear duration. Natural alternative là by Friday; until Friday vẫn valid trong durative contexts.
Cue: “Nhờ gửi trước deadline Friday.” Recall tests whether deadline phrase survives without model.
After repair, change deadline in a fresh sentence.
Original practice example
I wanted the BLUE one.
Nếu wording recall đúng nhưng prominence rơi vào ONE khi intended contrast là colour, form đó context-dependent. Listener có thể infer item contrast. Natural alternative cho colour contrast là prominence trên BLUE; ONE vẫn valid ở context khác.
Recall can succeed lexically while prosodic meaning changes. Note the two separately.

Nếu recall luôn blank, target có thể quá lớn
Một 2024 study on shadowing and multiword-unit memorization found material difficulty interacts with learner proficiency. Đừng biến model-off recall thành endurance test.
Shorten sentence, choose one phrase, then expand only when retrieval becomes workable.
Active recall chưa phải free speaking
Goal ở đây là retrieve learned language without hearing it first. VI-051’s self-speaking bridge asks you to change content and continue beyond source; task này deliberately narrower.

Turn the model off before your memory turns on
Shadow. Hide. Cue the meaning. Recall before replay. Then check.
If something disappears, repair that chunk—not your entire English.
